JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN) - Ahok leads the gubernatorial election race but still needs to fight in the second round in April.
Incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat are leading Wednesday’s local election, winning 43.08 percent of the vote, according to a Kompas Research Center quick count.
Kompas revealed that the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno ticket is in second position with 39.56 percent of the vote, while the Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni ticket have 17.36 percent.
The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) set up about 15,000 polling stations to cater to more than 7 million voters across the capital.
According to a KPU regulation, if no one wins 50 percent of the vote plus one vote, a runoff between the two tickets with the most votes will be held on April 19.
