DHAKA – China will not build any military base on foreign land, including Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said today.

He made the remark when his attention was drawn to a report carried by Nikkei Asia, titled “India wary of China setting up Bangladesh missile maintenance hub”, published on March 11.

With China preparing to set up a maintenance facility in Bangladesh for surface-to-air missile systems it supplied in 2011, alarm bells are ringing in New Delhi, the report said.

At the “Spring Dialogue with China”, organised by The Business Standard at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Li Jiming said China is not taking Russia’s side in the Ukraine war, rather it wants peaceful resolution through dialogue.

The Chinese Ambassador also referred to Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen who said Bangladesh wants peace and that is what China exactly wants.

Inam Ahmed, Editor of the Business Standard, moderated the event.

The ambassador shared his thoughts on issues concerning Bangladesh-China relations, Rohingya crisis, infrastructure, trade and investment, QUAD, Indo-Pacific Strategy and Taiwan issues.
