Hong Kong government reshuffles senior officials

Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip said they are seasoned administrative officers with proven leadership and management skills, with many appointments effective from July 1.

HONG KONG – The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Monday announced a number of senior appointments, many of which will be effective from July 1.

The appointees are seasoned administrative officers with proven leadership and management skills, said Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip.

“I have every confidence that they will continue to serve the community with professionalism in their new posts.”

On July 1, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism) Eliza Lee will assume the post of Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development; while Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Creative Industries) Clement Leung will take up the post of Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, according to a government press release.

Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Food) Vivian Lau will be Permanent Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Food), while Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health) Thomas Chan will be Permanent Secretary for Health.

The release said Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport) Mable Chan will become Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, and Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing)/Director of Housing Agnes Wong will become Permanent Secretary for Housing/Director of Housing.

Janice Tse, Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, will be Permanent Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Environment)/Director of Environmental Protection.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Joe Wong will be Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Permanent Secretary for Innovation and Technology Annie Choi will become Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry on July 1.

On July 20, her post will be taken up by Celebrations Co-ordination Office Director Eddie Mak as she will have begun pre-retirement leave by then.

Permanent Secretary, Chief Executive’s Office Shirley Lam will assume the post of Permanent Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs on July 1. Secretary-General of the Chief Executive-elect’s Office Daniel Cheng will then become Permanent Secretary, Chief Executive’s Office on the same day.

Director of Broadcasting Patrick Li will assume the post of Permanent Secretary for Security next month, according to the press release.

In addition, Department of Justice’s Director of Administration and Development Gracie Foo will become Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs on July 15 as Roy Tang will go on pre-retirement leave.

In the fourth quarter of this year, Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office Head Doris Ho will take up the post of Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands).
