HONG KONG – Chris Sun, labor and welfare secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, will depart Wednesday night for a seven-day visit to Singapore and the Philippines.
Sun will visit the two countries to tap overseas experience on talent recruitment and explore ways to better equip Filipino domestic workers in meeting the needs of Hong Kong’s ageing society, according to an HKSAR government statement.
While in Singapore from Jan 4 to 8, Sun will call on senior Singaporean government officials and visit continuing education and retraining facilities
While in Singapore from Jan 4 to 8, Sun will call on senior Singaporean government officials and visit continuing education and retraining facilities. He will also keep abreast of manpower and labor policy initiatives amid the emerging gig economy, and meet with academics, university students as well as Hong Kong people working and doing business in Singapore.
In Manila from Jan 8 to 10, Sun will have meetings with senior Philippine government officials to exchange views on enhancing the protection of Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong and the regulation of employment agencies,
These will be followed by a visit to a care training body “regarding the role of foreign domestic helpers in better supporting ageing in place in Hong Kong”, according to the statement.
Sun will return to Hong Kong on the evening of Jan 10 evening. In his absence, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare Ho Kai-ming will be the Acting Secretary for Labour and Welfare, it added.
