HONG KONG – Hong Kong added 5,245 new COVID-19 cases, including 416 imported infections, on Thursday, as 10 more people diagnosed with coronavirus infection passed away.
Of the imported cases, 243 involved samples taken at the Hong Kong International Airport, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) said in a statement. Total 123 of them involved samples during Day 1 to Day 3, and the remaining 50 during Day 4 to Day 7, it added.
The passing of 10 more COVID patients brought the city’s tally during this wave of the pandemic to 10,215 (since Dec 31, 2021)
The imported cases include 204 cases of sub-lineage XBB, six of XBD, eight of BA.2.75.2, seven of BA.4.6, 11 of BF.7 and 25 of BQ.1.1, the CHP said referring to tests by the DH’s Public Health Laboratory Services Branch.
Meanwhile, there were four cases of sub-lineage XBB, eight of XBD, one of BA.2.75.2 and 14 of BQ.1.1 among the locally transmitted cases.
The passing of 10 more COVID patients brought the city’s tally during this wave of the pandemic to 10,215 (since Dec 31, 2021).
The Hospital Authority said in another statement that 1,985 COVID patients, including 192 new ones, are currently hospitalized for treatment. Total 171 of them require oxygen therapy and 14 ventilator support.
Forty-one COVID patients are in serious condition, and 39 in critical condition, it added.
