New round of Basic Law test set for HK teachers

Limited places for the test will be available on a first come, first served basis.

HONG KONG – The Education Bureau (EDB) announced on Thursday that application submissions the second round of the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) will open for application from 9 am on Friday and submissions will be accepted till Dec 5.

The test will be held on Jan 7, 2023, the EDB said in a statement.

Target participants for the second round of the test are those who plan to join or change to another secondary school, primary school or kindergarten to take up a non-graduate teaching post.

Applications can be made through the bureau’s online application system from 9 am on Friday to 5 pm on Dec 5.

Limited places for the test will be available on a first come, first served basis, said the EDB.

Starting from the 2023-24 school year, all newly-appointed teachers in public sector schools, Direct Subsidy Scheme schools and kindergartens joining the kindergarten education scheme must pass the BLNST in order to be considered for appointment.

The requirement applies to all teacher grade ranks, including principals.

The bureau is conducting five rounds of the BLNST for degree holders and non-degree holders separately in this school year.
