ULAANBAATAR – On June 6, the Capital City Governor’s Council convened its 9th meeting to address a broad spectrum of urban management issues, ranging from budget amendments to a newly announced 21-day citywide environmental campaign. Led by Capital Governor and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar B.Purevdagva, the council reviewed critical updates to the city’s 2026 operational framework.
Key agenda items included proposed amendments to the capital’s 2026 budget and land management plan, the demarcation of public land boundaries, and the approval of updated public transport service costs. The council also discussed ongoing redevelopment projects in the ger districts, strategies to reduce air pollution, and the operational guidelines and staffing limits for the new Special Complex for Children and Youth Education.
During the session, Mayor B.Purevdagva issued several immediate directives to city officials. He ordered an urgent review and assessment of problematic sidewalks and pedestrian walkways across the capital. Additionally, he instructed officials to prepare and present proposals for the construction of new children’s summer camps, which will be developed in collaboration with the private sector through public-private partnerships.
To rapidly improve the urban environment, the council approved a 21-day citywide campaign focused on landscaping, expanding green spaces, and enhancing public cleaning services. The governors of Ulaanbaatar’s 9 districts have been tasked with collaborating closely with local citizens to ensure the city’s streets and public squares are clean, healthy, and safe.
Mayor B.Purevdagva also called for a comprehensive audit of state-owned organizations currently operating out of rented private premises. He criticized the inefficient use of taxpayer funds, highlighting the need to resolve the ongoing discrepancy where government agencies rent expensive private offices while municipal properties are frequently leased out at heavily discounted rates.
