2.1 million pass through Hong Kong in early Christmas travel

The Immigration Department earlier said that it expected 9.03 million travelers to pass through the city during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

HONG KONG – Around 2.1 million travelers passed through Hong Kong’s sea, land and air control points during the two days before Christmas Day, according to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

Immigration data showed that 1,069,947 travelers—397,625 arrivals and 672,322 departures–passed through the city’s immigration control points on Saturday (Dec 23).

Lo Wu was the busiest control point, handling a total of 226,761 travelers on Saturday and 219, 386 passengers yesterday

The arrivals included 194,357 Hong Kong residents, 161,789 visitors from the Chinese mainland, and 41,479 travelers from other places.

On Sunday, arrivals increased to 413,996 while departures decreased to 633,198.

Lo Wu was the busiest control point, handling a total of 226,761 travelers on Saturday and 219, 386 passengers yesterday.

The Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Control Point also saw heavy passenger traffic, handling a total of 407,733 and 240,391 passengers, respectively, during the two days.
