20 oil tankers catches fire at Myanmar Port

The fire is believed to have started at around 6:30 p.m. on April 20, and was caused by oil tankers parked at the port.

YANGON – According to some locals, the fire was brought under control only after nearly a day after more than 20 oil tankers caught fire at the Myoma Monastery Port in Homalin Township.

“The fire was only brought under control by noon today. There are still some small burns. Not much. There were more than 20 ships. They were caught in the fire. It is known that people died. The number is not yet known. Since the ships are oil tankers, the loss will not be small. More than 20 ships were burned,” said a local from Homalin.

The Myanmar Fire Service said in a statement that a fire broke out at Myoma Monastery Pier, Homalin Ward, Homalin Township, Sagaing Region at around 6:20 pm on April 20. Three fire engines, a water tanker, emergency fire fighters, reserve fire fighters, and relevant organizations from the Homalin Township Fire Station are working to put out the fire.
