48 Myanmar citizens released from Thai prisons repatriated

The released prisoners were welcomed by district and township officials and taken to the indoor Nawarat Sports Complex for COVID-19 and other health screenings, vaccination, personal information collection, among others.

YANGON – “It is reported that 48 Myanmar citizens who were released from prisons in Thailand have been repatriated to Kawthaung, Myanmar.

Thai officials welcomed the returnees from Yangon, Thailand, to Kawthaung, Myanmar, on November 5.

The Myanmar nationals were released after being convicted of violating Thailand’s existing laws for various reasons while living and working in Thailand. The Myanmar nationals included (34) men and (14) women, a total of (48) people. They were brought to Kawthaung from the Immigration Detention Center in Kawthaung by U Moe Zaw, a labor officer based in Ranong, and handed over to U Naing Lin Htet, chairman of the township’s administrative committee.

The released prisoners were welcomed by district and township officials and taken to the indoor Nawarat Sports Complex for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases screening, vaccination, personal information collection, and screening for CDM staff, arrest warrants, war deserters, police deserters, police deserters, defendants, and foreign nationals. Those who were registered were issued smart cards, and those who were not registered were arranged to register in their areas. After that, the locals were handed over to their parents and relatives, and vehicles were arranged for non-locals to return home.”
