DHAKA – At least 52 people were killed in the ongoing flash floods caused by heavy rainfalls and onrush of water from upstream.
Around 10,72,579 families have been stranded in 11 districts amid the floods, said a press release from the CA office.
Of the deceased, 14 died in Cumilla, 17 in Feni, six in Chattogram, three in Cox’s Bazar, eight in Noakhali, one each in Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, Khagrachhari and Moulvibazar.
Additionally, 54,80,463 people from 492 unions under 68 upazilas in Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar have been affected by the floods.
A total of 3,403 shelter centres have been opened to provide refuge for the affected people, where 5,02,501 people and 36,448 cattle have taken shelter.
A total of 595 medical teams are operational in the 11 districts to provide medical services to the victims.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated Tk 4.52 crore, 20,650 metric tonnes of rice, and 15,000 food packets as relief.
The CA office said deputy commissioners of flood-affected districts have been instructed to work in coordination with members of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement, the army, medical teams, and other volunteers.
A full-time control room has been opened at the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. The number 0255101115 is available for information and assistance.
Field hospitals have been set up to provide health services in Feni, while doctors from the army and the district civil surgeon’s office are providing health care there.
