BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – A total of 654 individuals received their Certificates of Brunei Citizenship at the 45th Citizenship Certificate Presentation Ceremony held at the Main Conference Hall of the International Convention Centre on Thursday.
The certificates were presented by the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
In his welcoming remarks, Acting Director of Immigration and National Registration Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim said the recipients had successfully obtained Brunei citizenship under the Brunei Nationality Act, Chapter 15.
They comprised applicants under Sections 5(1) and 8(1) who passed the written and oral Malay language examinations; applicants under Section 6(1), including children of Bruneian mothers, children of Bruneian fathers and legally adopted children of Bruneian citizens; as well as applicants under Section 5(6), comprising wives of Bruneian citizens.
Haji Azmi expressed hope that the recipients would value the conferment of Brunei citizenship by demonstrating unwavering loyalty to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, while continuing to uphold the nation’s laws and regulations.
He also urged them to embrace their responsibilities as citizens by contributing positively to the country’s continued development and prosperity.
The conferment of citizenship to the 654 recipients was granted with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam under the provisions of the Brunei Nationality Act, Chapter 15.
