85 Chinese nationals arrested for online gambling fraud in Myanmar’s Muse Township

Those who are caught committing online gambling fraud and the seized related items will be dealt with in accordance with procedures.

YANGON – 85 Chinese nationals were arrested on March 20 along with business equipment for engaging in online gambling fraud in Muse Township, Northern Shan State.

Based on reports from locals that online gambling scams were operating in the Kaungthum Tong, Taw Yad and Suan Saw neighborhoods of Muse, security forces operating in the area in Shan State (North) visited these areas on the morning of March 20 and conducted the necessary investigations and searches simultaneously.

As a result, 85 Chinese men were found and seized from a house in Kaungsutong Ward, along with 286 mobile phones, 30 computers, 28 laptops, and a building. 46 mobile phones and 18 computers used in online gambling were found in a house in Taewud Ward, and 85 mobile phones and 10 computers used in online gambling were found in a house in Suansaw Ward.

In addition, security forces conducting area security operations near Kaung San Village, Lecha Township, Shan State (South), on the evening of March 20, approximately 3,000 meters west of the village, discovered and confiscated two buildings measuring 130 feet long and 50 feet wide, three residential buildings measuring 90 feet long and 30 feet wide, three residential buildings measuring 60 feet long and 30 feet wide, a warehouse measuring 150 feet long and 50 feet wide, a building measuring 180 feet long and 60 feet wide, 10 Starlinks, 55 All in One computers, 10 Power Stations, and related equipment.

The state is continuing to implement programs to combat online gambling fraud in collaboration with neighboring countries, regional countries, and international organizations to eliminate online gambling fraud and prevent it from establishing operations in Myanmar.

In addition, Myanmar is taking the fight against online fraud and online gambling, which pose a threat to the international and global community, seriously as a national responsibility. In order to completely eliminate these crimes in Myanmar, it is coordinating with local forces as well as neighboring governments to combat these crimes.
