Beijing issues warning for geological hazards

BEIJING – Beijing issued a blue alert for strong rainfall at 2:45 pm on Sunday, saying 12 districts will see strong rain between now and 8 pm Sunday.

The capital also issued a yellow warning for potential geological hazards, indicating the risk of landslides and collapses in certain areas in the city.

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources and the Municipal Meteorological Bureau jointly released the alert on Sunday at noon.

According to the warning, for the 48 hours beginning at 11 pm Sunday, there will be a relatively high risk of geological hazards in the eastern part of Pinggu district and the southeastern part of Miyun district. The northwestern and southern parts of Pinggu, most of Miyun, and the central part of Huairou district will carry potential for landslides and collapses.

China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for geological hazards, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
