KUALA LUMPUR – It is unfair for any politician to drag the Malay Rulers into the murky waters of politics, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Given that this is common knowledge, the Prime Minister said Perikatan Nasional leaders should understand this rather than blaming the unity government when the police call them up to give statements.
He told the Dewan Rakyat that he had made it clear to the police that it should not use the Sedition Act against anyone who criticises either the government or himself as prime minister.
“But if you touch on the Rulers, it is a different matter because the Rulers have informed the Attorney General, police and Prime Minister that they do not want to be dragged into political discussions.
“It is unfair to them because they can’t respond in Parliament, in the media or in any debate.
“I have said that you can say what you want about the government and me as prime minister but do not touch on the 3R (race, religion and royalty),” he said in the Lower House on Tuesday (Sept 19).
Previously, Perikatan leaders accused the unity government of practising double standards by using the Sedition Act against Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
This was in regard to Sanusi’s speech that allegedly insulted the Sultan of Selangor during the recent six state elections in July.
