Japan expresses concern over Gaza casualties

The statement issued Monday by the Foreign Ministry’s Press Secretary Toshihiro Kitamura asks all parties to abide by humanitarian law.

TOKYO – In regard to Saturday’s airstrike on a school in the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip, the Japanese government expressed its “deep concern over the numerous civilian casualties caused by the Israeli strike,” in a statement issued Monday by the Foreign Ministry’s Press Secretary Toshihiro Kitamura.

While avoiding directly criticizing Israel, the statement called on “all parties to act in accordance with international law, including international humanitarian law.”
