MANILA – Some 75 Filipinos are returning to the Philippines on Sunday, the latest batch in the country’s ongoing repatriation program in Lebanon, which had been bombarded by airstrikes amid an intensified conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah.

The Department of Migrant Workers on Saturday said the 75 Filipino workers would arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

This latest batch will bring to 1,191 the total number of Filipinos repatriated by the government since Oct. 28.

The United Nations on Friday has described the past months of intensified Israeli bombardment in Lebanon as the “deadliest and most devastating” in decades.

“In recent weeks, Israel dramatically intensified its airstrikes and ground incursions, and this has deepened the humanitarian catastrophe that has affected civilians,” Ivo Freijsen, the UN refugee agency representative in Lebanon, said in interviews.
