MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. once again affirmed that he will not interfere in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Speaking in Episode 1 of the BBM Podcast on Monday, Marcos said the ball is now in the Senate’s court regarding the impeachment trial, and that it’s best to leave the matter in their hands.
“As for the impeachment, that’s already with the Senate. Let’s leave it to them. There’s a process for that. Let’s allow the process to take its course,” he said in Filipino.
“As for me, what’s on my mind is that the election is over—it’s time to get back to work,” the President added.
The trial is slated to start on July 30 with the new Congress taking charge.
In a press briefing last February, Marcos said there was nothing he could do to stop the looming impeachment trial of his former UniTeam partner.
He said this when asked if he had any plans to ask lawmakers to scrap the impeachment case, as it might affect the Senate’s other duties.
“The Senate has no choice; the House has no choice. They have to do this now. Once the impeachment complaint was filed, the process is already on its way,” he said.
“And if they do not carry out the process, they are delinquent in their duties,” he also said.
“Making a request won’t change anything. They still have to have the trial,” Marcos also said.
