Storm Wipha, southwest monsoon death toll now 6; over 1 million affected in the Philippines

So far, damage to agriculture has been estimated at P54 million.

MANILA – The death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, or habagat, rose to six on Tuesday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) 8:00 a.m. situational report.

The latest fatality was recorded in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan).

Three of the previously reported deaths occurred in Northern Mindanao, while one death each was recorded in the Davao and Caraga regions.

Six individuals remain missing, and six others were reported injured.

A total of 1,266,322 people, or 362,465 families, have been affected by the inclement weather across all 17 regions nationwide.

So far, damage to agriculture has been estimated at P54 million, with the bulk—over P44 million—reported in Mimaropa.

Estimates of infrastructure damage have risen to P413 million, including P299 million worth of destruction in the Ilocos Region and P112.8 million in Western Visayas.

As the country continues to reel from the effects of Crising and the habagat, another tropical cyclone is expected to form by Wednesday, according to state meteorologists.

Heavy rains are expected across most parts of the country on Tuesday, including Metro Manila, where many main roads have been submerged in floodwaters since Monday.
