DEHRADUN – A 14-year-old girl in Haridwar was allegedly gang-raped and then thrown from the terrace of a house by three accused youths, who subsequently fled the scene. The victim is currently recovering in the hospital.
The incident occurred on Saturday in Pathri area of Haridwar. According to the girl’s family, as reported to the police, the accused threw the victim from the rooftop into a sugarcane field.
This was done out of fear that they would be caught by villagers who had gathered outside the house, demanding the gate be opened. The girl sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Haridwar district hospital.
According to the Pathri police, the incident caused a minor communal flare-up, as the three suspects and the victim are from different communities. To prevent any further trouble, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the village to maintain law and order. A case was registered late Saturday night against one known and two unknown youths.
Police stated that the victim’s family’s complaint alleges that a teenage boy from the same village lured the girl onto his motorcycle and took her to a small house in a field in Ferupur area. Two of his friends were already there.
The family claims all three accused raped the girl in the room and then attempted to flee. However, some villagers who had seen the girl with the teenager reached the house and demanded they open the gate.
It was then that the accused, gripped by fear, took the girl to the roof and threw her into the sugarcane field before escaping. Police noted that the minor girl was in a serious condition upon her admission to the district hospital.
When contacted, Pathri SHO Manoj Nautiyal said: “The victim’s medical examination, which could not be done yesterday, is being conducted now. A case of rape has been filed against three accused: one named as Arvind, 19, and two unnamed individuals, one of whom is a minor. The matter is under investigation.”
The SHO confirmed that a search is underway to apprehend the accused, who are at large. Nautiyal added that additional police forces were called into the village and nearby areas to maintain law and order due to the communally sensitive nature of the case.
