NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized the importance of self-reliance and encouraged citizens to prioritize “Made in India” products, as the country gears up to implement significant Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms from tomorrow. Highlighting the crucial role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in driving growth and development, he said, “Let’s buy products that are Made in India. What the nation needs and what can be made in India should be made within India itself.”

The prime minister emphasized the importance of promoting locally-made products, echoing the “Vocal for Local” mantra. He urged citizens to prioritize Indian goods during festivals, saying, “Gifts should be those made in India, attire should be that woven in India, decor should be that made from materials made in India.”

PM Modi described the new GST rates as a “next-generation reform” that will give a major push to India’s economy and bring relief to the middle class, youth, and consumers across the country.

The new GST structure will have only two slabs: 5 and 18 per cent, ensuring uniformity across the country and making daily essentials cheaper. With 99 per cent of goods now falling under the 5 percent tax slab, the reforms aim to reduce the cost of living and increase savings for families.

The PM emphasized that everyone would benefit from the GST reforms, including youth, women, businesspersons, and families, with savings augmenting happiness for all. The reforms are expected to boost economic growth, simplify business, and make investment more attractive.

He stressed the importance of self-reliance for a developed nation, urging citizens to promote and buy products made in India. “Let’s buy products that are Made in India. What the nation needs and what can be made in India should be made within India itself,” he said.

The PM encouraged people to take pride in Indian products and contribute to the journey of Atmanirbhar Bharat, highlighting the significance of celebrating festivals like Navratri with a Swadeshi spirit.

Underscoring that ‘the dream of One Nation One Tax has come true’, the prime minister said the GST reforms would boost economic growth, simplify business, and make investment more attractive. With 99 per cent of goods now falling under the 5 per cent tax slab, the reforms aim to reduce the cost of living and increase savings for families.

As Navratri begins tomorrow, PM Modi highlighted the significance of celebrating festivals with a Swadeshi spirit. He encouraged people to take pride in Indian products and contribute to the journey of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
