NEW DELHI – A 22-year-old man from Gujarat’s Morbi district has reportedly been captured by the Ukrainian army amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to media reports, the man, identified as Sahil Muhammad Husain, had gone to Russia to study. However, he was allegedly caught with drugs on his college campus and sentenced to seven years in jail.

Sahil told Ukrainian officials that Russian authorities had offered him freedom and payment between 100,000 and 1.5 million rubles if he joined the army and fought for Russia for one year. But he claimed he never received any money.

Ukrainian media first reported the incident. Indian officials, however, say they have not received any official communication from Ukraine. Authorities are now trying to verify whether the captured man is indeed from Morbi, Gujarat.
