Turkish expert team arrives to probe Dhaka airport fire

An eight-member team meets the civil aviation adviser to discuss the investigation.

DHAKA – An eight-member team of experts from Turkey has arrived in Dhaka to investigate the fire incident at the import cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The team also held a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism and Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin.

The delegation was led by First Degree Chief Superintendent Oykun Ilgun. Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Sen was also present at the meeting, the civil aviation ministry said in a press release.

The ministry said the meeting discussed in detail the investigation into the fire incident at the cargo complex.

The expert team assured all kinds of technical and institutional support in the investigation.

At the time, Bashir Uddin said, “This cooperation will further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and play a vital role in advancing the investigation process.”

Among others, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Additional Secretary Humayra Sultana were present at the meeting.

Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, during his visit to the site yesterday, said, “Experts from England, Australia, China, and Turkey will come to determine whether there was any mismanagement behind the fire incident at the airport’s cargo village. They will help identify the cause and responsibility through investigation.”
