JAKARTA – Carlos Yulo captured the gold medal in the men’s vault in the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday.
The Olympic double gold medalist topped the final with an average of 14.866 points, besting Artur Davtyan of Armenia (14.833) and Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine (14.483).
Yulo was the favorite to win in the apparatus heading into the final day after leading the qualifiers with 14.750 points.
He also secured a bronze medal in the men’s floor exercise on Friday.
“I’m beyond grateful and thankful, Lord, for all the challenges You’ve allowed me to experience, for guiding me, and for blessing me with this kind of talent to share with the world,” Yulo said in an Instagram post.
Yulo hiked his gold medal count at the World Championships to three, having ruled men’s vault in 2021 and floor exercise in 2019.
He also adds another feat to his already impressive resume, which includes a historic campaign in the Paris Olympics where he became the first Filipino to win multiple gold medals.
