MANILA – Mexican beauty queen Fatima Bosch earned the support of Miss Universe titleholders Sheynnis Palacios and Andrea Meza, as well as former Miss Grand International 2024 Rachel Gupta, after she was publicly reprimanded by Nawat Itsaragrisil during the global tilt’s sashing ceremony.

Bosch, who represents Mexico at Miss Universe 2025, has been making headlines after she was confronted by Itsaragrisil for allegedly being unable to fulfill a sponsored shoot, which prompted her, some fellow candidates, and reigning titleholder Victoria Theilvig to walk out on the global tilt’s executive.

The incident earned mixed reactions on social media, with many pageant fans calling out the global tilt for not fostering a positive environment for this year’s delegates. This caught the attention of Palacios, Meza, and Gupta as well, who expressed their fury over the matter on their respective Instagram accounts.

Daily surprises

In a lengthy statement in English and Spanish, Palacios said the recent “surprises” involving the global pageant goes against its purpose of “celebrating women with a voice and purpose.”

“Some of the values that should guide Miss Universe — respect, dignity, gender equality, and transparency — are now being questioned,” she said, reiterating what Miss Universe is supposed to stand for.

“It is not acceptable for a woman to be insulted or publicly disrespected under the spotlight of an international pageant that claims to promote the voice, talent, and dignity of women. Pageants should be platforms for empowerment, inspiration, and leadership. When dynamics of power, humiliation, or disrespect arise, that purpose is betrayed,” she continued.

‘Not the true essence of Miss Universe’

Palacios stressed that the candidates deserve to be in a “safe, professional, and respectful environment” since they carry their countries’ sashes with “dreams, talent, and unique identities.”

“One thing I am completely certain of is that this is not the true essence of Miss Universe. I believe the organization will take the necessary steps to realign with what we all know and love about Miss Universe,” she said. “I have also taken the proper actions to ensure that mechanisms of respect toward ALL contestants are upheld.”

The Nicaraguan beauty queen also pointed out that winning the crown “should never come at the cost of a woman’s dignity,” and they deserve to receive respect.

“Because a crown should never come at the cost of a woman’s dignity. And because representing a country, a culture, and womanhood itself is more than just wearing a sash — it is a legacy of respect,” she said.

‘Dignity, respect never negotiable’

Meanwhile, Meza reshared the clip of Miss Universe Organization (MUO) president Raul Rocha publicly reprimanding Itsaragrisil for what he did to Bosch and fellow delegates.

“Dignity and respect are never negotiable,” she wrote in Spanish.

Rachel Gupta speaks

For her part, Gupta shared an old clip of herself cutting ties with the Miss Grand International organization — where Itsaragrisil serves as the president and founder — while calling out the Thai business mogul for disrespecting women.

“When you are not respected, WALK OUT. If this can be said in a room of a hundred people, imagine what he said behind closed doors,” she said while referring to Itsaragrisil.

First-hand experience?

The Indian beauty queen also expressed her support for the other candidates who walked out on the MUO executive director, apparently drawing from her own experience.

“If this can be said in a room of hundred people, imagine what he said beind closed doors,” she wrote. “So much love and respect to the strong women who stood up for themselves and walked out with integrity.”

Gupta and Itsaragrisil had quite a tumultuous relationship in the past, as both of them had conflicting accounts over the former departing from her title as Miss Grand International 2024.

While the Indian beauty queen said she resigned from her title due to allegations of “mistreatment and disrespect” by the Miss Grand International, Itsaragrisil accused her of being unable to fulfill her duties. Her title eventually went to the first runner-up, Filipina beauty queen CJ Opiaza.

Since the incident, Itsaragrisil apologized for the outburst in a TikTok live. While he was absent from the pageant’s dinner and rescheduled sashing event, it remains unknown if he will participate in the global tilt’s upcoming activities.
