MANILA – A high school teacher in Tondo was arrested last December 12 for allegedly threatening a student and forcing him to eat a cockroach after he was caught by the student molesting a girl inside a restroom, according to the Manila Police District (MPD).

In a report on Wednesday, police said the 52-year-old teacher was apprehended along Juan Luna Street, Barangay 174 in Tondo for purportedly violating Section 10(A) of Republic Act No. 7160, a law that protects children against abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.

Citing the student’s account, MPD spokesperson Maj. Philipp Ines said in a phone interview that the teacher allegedly forced the victim to eat a cockroach and threatened to cut his foot and kill him if he reported what he had witnessed inside the restroom.

Ines, however, noted that the girl, who was reportedly molested inside the comfort room, has not yet filed a complaint against the teacher.

The 52-year-old was under the custody of the Delpan Police Station since December 12, but had already been freed after posting bail of P120,000 on Monday.
