BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) School on Monday officially launched its comprehensive, year-long anti-bullying initiative, Hidup Tanpa Buli (Life Without Bullying). Recognising that bullying – whether physical, verbal, social, or online – has a significant impact on students’ emotional well-being and academic performance, the school reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
The year-long initiative is designed to feature a wide array of activities engaging the entire school community. These included debate competitions on bullying-related themes, the integration of related topics within the school curriculum, and Continuous Assessment Assignment (CAA) programmes.
Students were encouraged to explore these themes through creative outlets such as drama showcases, art poster displays, school murals, comic strips, and student-produced awareness videos.
The campaign incorporated Islamic-based activities, including short tazkirah during assemblies and reflection circles using the Al-Quran and Hadith to promote akhlak mulia (good character).
To ensure accountability, the school implemented stricter anti-bullying policies, including the potential omission of entire classes from selected activities if students are found to be involved in bullying incidents.
The campaign was officially launched by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, the guest of honour, on behalf of the Board of Directors of YSHHB School.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of YSHHB School Haji Abdullah bin Haji Ahad, in his welcoming remarks, underscored the school’s commitment to a safe and holistic learning environment through the launch of the campaign and the new Wellness Room.
He highlighted the introduction of the Anti-Bullying Policy Book, which establishes clear, evidence-based standard operating procedures for handling incidents in alignment with national MoE guidelines. By addressing the critical link between bullying and mental health, he noted that the initiative aimed to foster a cultural shift from silence to protection, providing students with dedicated spaces for counselling and emotional self-regulation to navigate modern academic and social pressures.
The event proceeded with the handover of appreciation certificates to the participating agencies for the multi-agency booths, followed by the official presentation of the School Discipline Regulations Handbook No 1: Bullying 2026 to the guest of honour by the Acting Chief Executive, together with the Secondary School Principal Sarimah binti Haji Lusin. The event concluded with a tour of the showcases located in the library, concourse, and courtyard.
Hidup Tanpa Buli represents a step in safeguarding the emotional and spiritual well-being of the student body.
By combining education, creative expression, and Islamic values, YSHHB School reaffirms its dedication to building a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student feels valued.
It also ensures that students, teachers, and parents share a common understanding of their collective role in stopping bullying and fostering a caring school community. – JAMES KON
