YANGON – The Ministry of Labor has instructed some Myanmar workers who returned from Malaysia on leave and applied for OWIC cards due to circumstances such as the employer not answering the phone or the employer’s phone number being incorrect, to resubmit their applications.

Safe Migration, under the Ministry of Labour, has announced that among the OWIC applicants for Malaysia, there is a requirement for the labor commissioner to obtain confirmation from the relevant employers. The workers will need to include the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the employer/HR who can be contacted in the employer’s letter of permission. Those who need it should submit the above letter, a copy of their passport, and the necessary information. Those who have been verified and approved by the labor commissioner will be allowed according to the current registration schedule, according to the safe migration under the Ministry of Labour.

According to a statement from Safe Migration, the following situations are considered necessary: the employer’s phone number is incorrect, the employer does not answer the phone, the employer does not have a phone number, and the employer denies having any Myanmar workers.

Regarding OWIC card applications, it is necessary to include a phone number and address where the employer or HR can be contacted, whether professional or casual. If these points are not included in the submitted application, it will be necessary to resubmit it. The information submitted will be used to verify the information previously registered with the Department.

Safe Migration announced that they will conduct verification by filling in the information according to the list, and only those who are verified will be allowed to enter in accordance with the list and SOP.

The Department of Labor recently announced that if OWIC card holders intend to travel abroad, they must submit the necessary documents to the Department of Labor by mail, courier, in person (or through a representative) and only after receiving permission can they return.
