DAISEN, Tottori — A unique event in which competitors raced against each other while wearing tyrannosaurus rex costumes was held in Daisen, Tottori Prefecture, on Saturday.
The residents of the town organized the race because they saw that such events have been becoming more popular abroad over the past several years.
The competition was divided into four categories: elementary school boys, elementary school girls, adult men and adult women. The adult category included those who are junior high school-aged or older. About 90 people participated in the event and ran approximately 70 meters while wearing a T. rex costume.
A second-year junior high school student from Kitakyushu was the winner in the adult women category.
“I couldn’t see that well, but I ran as hard as I could until I reached the finish line,” she said. “I am happy that I came in first.”
