HONG KONG – With the authorities scrapping most of the pandemic measures on Thursday, Hong Kong residents got much-needed relief just ahead of the new year.

The end of the vaccine pass scheme means people no longer need to be jabbed against COVID-19 in order to be allowed into various places including restaurants, bars, and cinemas. Also gone are the limits on outdoor gatherings, and isolation for close contacts of infected people.

Also, many of the travelers who arrived in the city were happy to discover that the city had dropped a requirement for nucleic acid testing upon landing.

China Daily’s Edmond Tang took the photos from different parts of the city on Thursday.
