PETALING JAYA – The police have been monitoring social media for any propaganda being spread by the Islamic State (IS), says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani (pic).
The Inspector-General of Police was responding to Nordic Counter-Terrorism Network (NCTN) information about propaganda that the group had support structures in the country.
“The police had already been tracing and monitoring the spread of propaganda through social media which they used to garner support for groups linked to IS.
“One of the ways used is our close collaboration with other enforcement agencies in the region to ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible for the spread of such propaganda.
“In this effort, all agencies play an active role and surveillance has been increased to ensure we are safe against such threats,” he said.
It was reported the NCTN had identified that IS had launched a media outlet here dubbed the Al Malaka Media Centre to spread propaganda.
The NCTN, a think-tank based in Finland, told a local media outlet that they had found the group’s propaganda content on the dark web.
