PETALING JAYA – Any attempt to topple the unity government will make it difficult for Malaysian diplomats to convince foreign investors to invest in the country, says Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (pic).
Nazri, who is Malaysian ambassador to the United States, said any move to topple the government would give an impression that the country was unstable and foreign investors would lose their confidence in Malaysia.
“Investors in America are particular about the stability of the country before investing.
“I fully support Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar who stressed on the importance to maintain the stability of the unity government,” he said yesterday.
Nazri was commenting on the advice by Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who called for the country’s stability to be maintained.
In a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page on Wednesday, His Majesty expressed concern at the incessant reports regarding the stability of the unity government, even though six months have passed since the 15th General Election (GE15).
The Ruler said the rakyat had placed high hopes in GE15 and voted for 222 representatives to bring back political stability.
“But until today, the 222 MPs cannot get on the same page with efforts made to derail the stability that is being carefully built.
“This is not healthy for the entire nation, whether socially, economically or even our standing internationally.
“Enough is enough. How much longer must the 30 over million people of our country endure this situation? The economy must recover and Malaysia’s prosperity must be prioritised,” said Sultan Ibrahim.
Nazri said Malaysian ambassadors, who are tasked, among others, to gain the confidence of foreign investors to do business in Malaysia, were worried that any plot to topple the government would turn off investors.
He said stability was a main concern of foreign investors.
Nazri said he had spoken to many Malaysian diaspora in the United States who support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to eliminate corruption.
“They care about the country’s stability despite living abroad.
“They also claim that some MPs who want to topple the government because they themselves are involved in corruption,” Nazri said during an interview with Astro Awani.
He advised MPs to respect the unity government which was decided by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Everyone should be reminded that the unity government was formed in accordance with the Constitution.
“MPs should prove their loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by maintaining stability in the country,” Nazri said.
