PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the police to take action against those who made false allegations against him, says Fahmi Fadzil.
“The Prime Minister has no intention of taking any action against those who raise criticisms, for example, like Anwar using ‘capal’ (leather sandals) (on his first day of clocking-in as the Prime Minister).
“But we draw the line on elements like slander and accusations of Anwar being an Israeli agent,” he added.
“The Prime Minister has asked the police to take action,” said Fahmi, who is also Pakatan’s communications director, after the first presidential council meeting here on Monday (Nov 28).
Prior to attending Friday (Nov 25) prayers in Putrajaya, Anwar wore a baju Melayu complete with samping when he clocked-in for work in Putrajaya.
Social media was buzzing with social media users debating the Prime Minister’s choice of footwear on his first day in office, when he was pictured wearing a “capal”.
Fahmi also noted the 90-minute Pakatan presidential council meeting that also discussed the issue of slander and extreme racial sentiments being played up by certain quarters.
Aside from that, the Prime Minister expressed concern over possible flooding following a warning by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) of continuous heavy rain over the next few days, said Fahmi.
“We are worried over the statement issued by MetMalaysia of possible continuous heavy rainfall which is expected to last until Dec 3.
“I believe the Prime Minister is concerned about the welfare of the rakyat, not only on the issue of high cost living, but also flooding that will affect the people,” he told reporters.
These are among the issues that were raised during Pakatan’s first presidential council meeting since Anwar took over as the Prime Minister.
Earlier, several top Pakatan leaders were spotted attending the meeting, including Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.
Fahmi also urged all parties to respect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree to form a coalition unity government.
“We need to unite and close ranks for our beloved nation,” said the Lembah Pantai MP.
On the recent statements involving extreme racial elements, Fahmi said that the Prime Minister wants it to be stopped immediately.
“It is time for us to serve and we hope that no one has the intention of breaking the law,” he said.
On the Cabinet formation, he said a decision will be made.
“There was no discussion on the formation of the Cabinet (during the meeting),” he added.
On Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s presence at the Pakatan presidential meeting, Fahmi explained that Syed Saddiq was invited as Muda was part of the electoral pact.
“No decision has been made yet on Muda’s application to join Pakatan,” said Fahmi.
