The measure was taken with the "view to provide maximum relief to the consumers" despite the loss in revenue due to globally rising petroleum prices.
The move comes days after the IMF said the Pakistani government had "agreed that prompt action is needed to reverse unfunded subsidies".
The statement comes amid political chaos in the country, especially in the aftermath of President Dr Arif Alvi's dissolution of the National Assembly.
