Average price of basic food items in Myanmar increases by 19 percent

The World Food Programme said it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to continue to provide assistance.

YANGON – The World Food Programme ( WFP) has reported that the average price of basic food items in Myanmar has increased by 19 percent since late February .

“Food prices are rising across Myanmar, along with fuel prices, as conflicts in the Middle East escalate. The average price of basic food items has risen by about 19 percent nationwide since late February, particularly for rice, palm oil, and salt,” the WFP said.

WFP said it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to continue to provide assistance, adapting its assistance as needed, to ensure that families facing food shortages have access to sufficient food.
