PETALING JAYA – The Denmark and French Open will be the beginning of a new dawn for Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik as they will start as world champions for the first time in their career.

The duo, who became Malaysia’s first world champions in badminton at the Tokyo World Championships in August, are excited to see the response and the challenge they would receive from their rivals in a fortnight.

Aaron, 25, said the most significant improvement is the confidence they have gained after winning the world crown, which also turned out to be their first international title.

“We are excited and are expecting more after this, we feel confident and hopefully more titles will come our way,” said Aaron.

“But as I always have said, I don’t want to think too much. We hope to continue our momentum and consistency and give our best in every tournament.

“We now have more belief in ourselves and will keep on fighting harder (for titles).”

Aaron is also relieved that a recent injury to his right shoulder and back joint has almost healed.

There was also some piece of good news for the pair as they have improved on their world ranking by a spot to No. 4 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Wooi Yik, 24, believes that the scenario in the doubles hasn’t changed much and that competition will remain keen.

“As for us, there is no specific tournaments to win. So many pairs have won titles this year and this will keep happening but we have to believe that we too have a chance,” said Wooi Yik.

“Other pairs will be out to beat us and we must be versatile in countering them. The aspect we have to prove in Denmark and France is how we can control our emotions.”
