Bangladesh Coast Guard arrests Rohingyas with 14 firearms, yaba pills

Six members of an armed Rohingya gang have also been arrested, the Coast Guard said.

DHAKA – The Coast Guard has recovered 14 firearms, 486 bullets, and 20,000 yaba pills during a drive at Nafnadi of Teknaf upazila.

Six members of an armed Rohingya gang have also been arrested, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard’s Teknaf station held a press briefing yesterday to disclose this, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.

Lt Commander Md Mohiuddin Zaman of Teknaf station of the Coast Guard said during the operation, between 1:00am Monday and yesterday morning, two foreign-made pistols, three single-barrel guns, two long guns, two short guns, six locally-made pistol magazines, 450 bullets, 39 bullet shells, four sharp weapons, 20,000 yaba pills, 21 bottles of foreign liquor, 551 cans of beer, one set of handcuffs, and five phones were recovered.He said they launched the drive following specific information that a gang was planning to rob fishing trawlers in the Bay.

The suspects tried to escape with their boat and the Coast Guard gave chase. The boat eventually dropped the suspects off at Kharer Island and made way towards Myanmar.

Later, members of the Coast Guard Teknaf and St Martin’s station surrounded the island and arrested the six robbers and made the recoveries.

A case was filed with Teknaf Police Station in this regard, said Lt Commander Mohiuddin.
