DHAKA – Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain has expressed concern over the escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India.

During a phone conversation with Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar last evening, he stressed the importance of exercising restraint by all parties, emphasising the need for de-escalation, according to a statement by the Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh posted on its Facebook page.

Both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Bangladesh bilateral relations and emphasised the need for maintaining regular high-level engagements.

They also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation on regional and multilateral fora.

During the call, Ishaq Dar briefed Touhid on the worsening regional tensions resulting from “India’s allegations and unilateral measures, including its arbitrary decision to suspend provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty”.

A terrorist attack killed 26 tourists in India-administered Kashmir, and India accuses Pakistan of its involvement.

Pakistan has rejected any such accusation and demanded independent investigation.
