Bangladesh gov’t not interfering in dissemination of news: Information minister

DHAKA – Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud told parliament today that the current government is not interfering in the free dissemination of news.

In reply to lawmakers’ queries, the minister also said if there are allegations of spreading “anti-national” or “false and fabricated” news in any online news portal or newspaper, steps will be taken to stop it.

The question-answer session of today’s parliament sitting was tabled with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

In reply to a query of a Jatiya Party MP, the information minister said that the present government is very sincere in protecting the freedom of the press and journalists.

“This government is not interfering in any way in the independent dissemination of news in the print media and has continued to take various initiatives to improve the quality of this sector.”
