DHAKA – Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, on behalf of Parliament, congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on being named among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world for 2026.
“His honour means the nation’s honour; the prime minister has honoured this country. On behalf of myself and on behalf of Parliament, I sincerely congratulate him and express my gratitude,” he said at the Parliament today.
The chief whip noted that after returning to the country following 17 years abroad, Tarique Rahman has inspired renewed hope among citizens.
“Motivated by this hope, the people across the nation overwhelmingly elected him and sent him to Parliament. The people have many expectations of him,” he said.
He later recited a poem in the PM’s honour.
Speaking in the House, Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal said the recognition transcends individual achievement.
“This achievement is not just his alone, it is the achievement of our entire nation, indeed of the whole country,” he told lawmakers today.
The list, published yesterday by the New York-based magazine, includes prominent global figures such as US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Pope Leo XIV, Benjamin Netanyahu, Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, among others.
