DHAKA – Border killings by the Indian Border Security Force have increased this year compared to the year before, as per statistics compiled by human rights organisations.
At least 17 Bangladeshis have been shot to death within the first nine months of this year, while one person was tortured to death, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) said in a statement today.
On the other hand, Human Rights Support Society (HRSS), in a report circulated today, claimed that the number of citizens killed during the same period is 19.
From January to September 30, last year, a total of eight people were shot dead, while a further 2 were allegedly tortured to death, showed ASK’s figures.
In 2022, a total of 16 Bangladeshis were shot dead — less than the first nine months of 2023.
ASK came up with the figures from news articles of major media outlets, while HRSS relied on media, as well as their own local investigation networks.
