BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The 48th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group (MTWG) Meeting officially commenced yesterday marking the commencement of the two-day meeting hosted and chaired by Brunei Darussalam through the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) at a hotel in Gadong.
The MTWG serves as the key coordinating and implementing body under the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM), driving the progress of ASEAN-led initiatives in the maritime transport sector. It continues today at the same venue. Chaired by MPABD Acting Assistant Chief Executive Haji Khairul Zaman bin Haji Abdul Jalil, the meeting discussed ASEAN’s progress under the KLTSP 2016–2025, focusing on key strategic actions such as advancing the ASEAN Single Shipping Market, enhancing cooperation among the 47 designated ports, and strengthening maritime connectivity.
Capacity-building initiatives and emerging maritime issues will also be addressed at the meeting, including autonomous technologies, decarbonisation and digitalisation.
Brunei Darussalam, represented by MPABD, will continue to lead the 49th MTWG Meeting, tentatively scheduled for late September 2025 after which the MTWG chairmanship will be handed over to Cambodia in 2026.
