BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The consumer price index (CPI) in July recorded a decrease of 0.2 per cent compared to July 2024, driven by declines of 0.4 per cent in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index; and 0.1 per cent in the non-food index.
The decrease in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index was mainly contributed by the decline in the prices of vegetables (5.3 per cent); and meat (2.3 per cent), mainly meat preparations.
As for the non-food index, the decrease was driven by a decline in the cost of online media streaming subscription services due to exchange rate differences; and transport prices, following a decline in air fare prices.
On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in July increased by 0.1 per cent compared to June. This was driven by increases of 0.2 per cent in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index; and a 0.1 increase in the non-food index.
The increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index was mainly contributed by an increase in the prices of fish and seafood (1.1 per cent); and non-alcoholic beverages (0.9 per cent). Meanwhile, the increase in the non-food index was driven by the prices of clothing and footwear (2.8 per cent); and restaurants and hotels (0.1 per cent).
