His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has safely undergone surgery of the right total knee replacement at Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Sunday.

By consent of His Majesty, a special announcement was broadcast by the PMO delivered by Minister at the PMO and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, and Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
In the announcement, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi informed that His Majesty has, with the blessings and consent of Allah the Almighty, safely undergone surgery of the right total knee replacement.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohammad Isham also informed that following the medical procedure, His Majesty is in stable condition and good health. Currently, His Majesty is recuperating and is being monitored by the medical team. This will be followed by recovery phase including physiotherapy sessions.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi further informed that during the recovery period, His Majesty will continue to carry out official duties and His Majesty’s presence at national and official ceremonies will depend on his condition from time to time.
The minister also stated that “public support in particular the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam both in the country and overseas, in religious events such as Sunat Hajat prayer, recitation of Surah Yasin and Special Doa that have been held throughout the country is very meaningful in together praying to Allah the Almighty to bestow immediate healing, perfect health and lasting well-being to our beloved Monarch”.
At the end of the special announcement, a Special Doa was recited by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin for His Majesty to be bestowed immediate recovery and lasting well-being.
