BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam continue to deepen bilateral relations, with trade volume surpassing targets and cooperation expanding into new areas including the digital economy, innovation, and science and technology.

Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Brunei Darussalam Tran Anh Vu highlighted these achievements during a reception to mark Viet Nam’s 80th National Day at the Songket Ballroom of the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong on Monday evening.

He noted that bilateral trade has already exceeded the USD 670 million target set for 2024, while Brunei is ranked as Viet Nam’s 20th largest investor. Collaboration has also broadened to include defense, with the Royal Brunei Navy set to visit Viet Nam in 2025, alongside enhanced people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

The event was graced by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad as the guest of honour, accompanied by his spouse Datin Hajah Binanun binti Haji Bungsu. Also present were members of the diplomatic community, senior officials and representatives of the local business sector.

Ambassador Tran underlined that since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992 and upgrading to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2019, both nations have steadily strengthened cooperation across energy, Halal, tourism, investment, and education. The adoption of the 2023–2027 Action Plan has further boosted collaboration in key areas.

He also highlighted the vibrant cultural and educational ties, with language programmes, student exchanges, and nearly 20 cultural activities organised in Brunei over the past two years. The Vietnamese community in Brunei has also played an active role in fostering closer links between the two countries.
