PHNOM PENH – Senior Cambodian and Chinese officials have highlighted the numerous fruitful achievements of their bilateral relationship and reaffirmed their commitment to mutual support.

The accomplishments were shared during a September 26 ceremony, held to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event was attended by Senate president Hun Sen and Chinese ambassador Wang Wenbin.

As Hun Sen addressed the event, he emphasised the many achievements of the Cambodia-China relationship, spanning economy, trade, tourism and transportation infrastructure, including the Funan Techo Canal.

He reiterated that Cambodia adheres to the One-China policy and considers issues related to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang as internal Chinese affairs.

“We support various Chinese initiatives, including the Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilisation Initiative, and firmly believe these initiatives will contribute to safeguarding global interests, promoting global development, and advancing the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to maintain peace, security and harmony,” he said.

Wang described China’s stance toward Cambodia and the world, as well as progress in bilateral relations. He noted that China chooses peace over war, dialogue over confrontation, and win-win cooperation over zero-sum games.

According to the ambassador, in the first eight months of this year, Cambodia-China trade volume reached $12.7 billion, a 26 per cent increase over the same period last year. Chinese investment accounted for 52.8 per cent of the Kingdom’s total investment.

He also noted that the Cambodia-China Joint Logistics and Training Centre at Ream Port was officially inaugurated, the “Golden Dragon 2025” joint military exercise was successfully held, and the “China-Cambodia Tourism Year” was celebrated, with nearly 800,000 Chinese tourists visiting Cambodia in the first eight months of the year, a 45.7 per cent increase from the previous year.

In 2025, approximately 200 Cambodian students received Chinese government scholarships to study in China, a higher number than in previous years.

“China-Cambodia cooperation across various sectors has yielded fruitful results, demonstrating the solid foundation, strong momentum, and bright future of the ironclad friendship between China and Cambodia,” said Wang.

“We have strong confidence in Cambodia’s future and in China-Cambodia cooperation. China and Cambodia have always shared joys and hardships, supported each other and firmly stood by each other on issues concerning their core interests,” he added.
