PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet has noted that that Cambodia and India have many potential areas for bilateral cooperation, and declared that the Kingdom will continue working closely with India.
The total trade volume between the two countries reached nearly $160 million in the first five months of 2025.
Manet met with Pabitra Margherita, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, in Phnom Penh on July 7. The prime minister expressed his appreciation for the strong and productive bilateral relations and cooperation between the governments and private sectors of both countries.
He also highlighted Cambodia’s various potential sectors, viewing them as opportunities to further enhance Cambodia–India cooperation.
“Both countries still have many potential sectors for cooperation, and Cambodia is fully prepared to continue working closely with India,” he added.
Margherita expressed his pleasure in visiting Cambodia and offered high praise for the progress in relations and cooperation between the two countries. He also emphasised the long-standing traditional friendship between the two.
He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral ties and cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides pledged to continue strengthening and expanding cooperation in key areas such as the economy, trade, investment, security and national defence, culture, education, health, tourism, aviation and textiles.
According to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), January to May trade between Cambodia and India totalled $156.96 million, up 1.8% over the same period last year. Cambodian exports amounted to $54.78 million (down 28%), while imports reached $102.79 million (up 30.8%).
In 2024, the total trade volume between the two countries was $345.04 million, a 29% decline compared to the previous year. Cambodian exports to India were $154.32 million (a drop of 47.3%), and imports from India were $190.72 million (a slight decrease of 1%).
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia received a total of 2.95 million international tourists in the first five months of 2025, marking an 11.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Among them, 30,752 were Indian nationals, a decrease of 4.6%.
At present, Cambodia’s national carrier Air Cambodia operates direct flights between Phnom Penh and New Delhi.
