HONG KONG – Special Administrative Region government officials, legislators and volunteers, led by Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, kicked off a week-long distribution of anti-pandemic service bags to about 3 million households across the city on Saturday, starting with those in public or private housing estates.
According to Undersecretary for Home Affairs Jack Chan Jick-chi, some 1.3 million anti-pandemic service packs had been given out by 3 pm on Saturday
Lam visited buildings in the Central and Western districts to distribute the packs door-to-door. She urged residents to make good use of the rapid antigen test kits included in the kits, especially on April 8, 9 and 10, by conducting self-tests with their families voluntarily to identify possible COVID-19 cases and contain the outbreak as soon as possible.
According to Undersecretary for Home Affairs Jack Chan Jick-chi, some 1.3 million anti-pandemic service packs had been given out by 3 pm on Saturday.
He said the exercise has gone off going smoothly and he’s confident the packs will be distributed to all households within seven days.
If the residents aren’t at home, a notice will be left behind, telling them to collect the bags at 90 distribution points across Hong Kong from Thursday next week.
The SAR government has joined hands with various sectors in the community in carrying out the exercise to ensure there’re ample supplies for every citizen, fully demonstrating the city’s unity in overcoming challenges. It also strengthens social cohesion which is conducive to the anti-pandemic work, said Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah.
Cheng took part in handing out the anti-virus bags at households in San Po Kong. She hopes that such efforts can raise the public’s awareness in curbing the outbreak and stepping up anti-pandemic work.
Hong Kong confirmed 4,475 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday – the eighth consecutive day that daily cases had fallen below the 10,000-mark.
More than 17,000 volunteers and nearly 2,000 civil servants had helped in packing up 3.5 million service bags in the past three days.
Each bag contains 10 rapid antigen test kits, 10 KN95 face masks, proprietary Chinese medicine, anti-pandemic information and greeting cards.
