Hun Sen urges Myanmar junta chief to allow aid, envoy visit

Cambodia has indicated it wants to engage the junta, but Hun Sen has been pressed by several leaders not to yield on the agreement.

Indonesia is expected to hold the summit in October in a slightly changed format, with more emphasis on important speakers.

PM Lee also accepted Mr Widodo’s invitation to the G-20 summit in Bali this year and expressed support for Indonesia’s G-20 presidency.

Indonesia will build a lighthouse on the shoal of rock in a bid to reaffirm the sovereignty of Indonesia territory.

He made the remark during a call with Indonesia's Joko Widodo to move Asean forward and exploring ways to address the Myanmar crisis.

The PM also stressed the importance of close coordination between diplomatic agencies for higher efficiency and international integration.

Under the current arrangement, Singaporeans are allowed to enter Indonesia via specific ferry terminals in Batam and Bintan.

Hun Sen also said the trip had directly and indirectly achieved some tangible results, listing “a halt to violence” and “an extended ceasefire”.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since Feb 1, 2021, when the military declared a one-year state of emergency.

Both sides committed to facilitating an increase in their trade volume in order to reach more than US$10 billion for 2022.
