FIROZABAD – Tensions erupted in Firozabad after unidentified miscreants vandalized a centuries-old dargah (shrine) of Pir Baba on Malkhanpur Road and installed an idol of Lord Hanuman at the site.

The incident has triggered outrage among local residents and renewed concerns over communal harmony in the region, coming just days after similar unrest in Fatehpur.

According to reports, the shrine—revered by both Hindu and Muslim communities—was found in ruins early Wednesday morning by locals who had arrived for routine cleaning.

Debris from the demolished structure had been dumped by the roadside, and in its place, a statue of Hanuman had been installed, sparking shock and anger in the area.

A large crowd of villagers soon gathered at the spot, chanting slogans and demanding the immediate reconstruction of the shrine.

Local police, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Anuj Kumar, reached the scene promptly. The idol was removed and taken to the police station, while officers worked to pacify the crowd and prevent further escalation.

SHO Kumar assured residents that strict action would be taken against those responsible. “We are identifying the culprits, and legal action will follow. Efforts are underway to maintain peace and order,” he said.

The incident comes amid heightened communal sensitivities in Uttar Pradesh, following a similar episode in Fatehpur. Authorities have urged both communities to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.

District administration officials have appealed for peace and emphasized the need for a resolution through dialogue. Security in the area has been tightened to avert any further disturbances.
